Traffic Information Updates


Please be advised that this report is compiled from multiple sources and agencies that, at times, provide conflicting information. Every effort is made to ensure accuracy; however, due to the fluid nature of road closures, this information is subject to change.

Information Regarding Street Closures in the City of Fort Lauderdale

>> The Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be performing maintenance on FEC RR Crossing # 272537M on SR-870/E. Commercial Blvd., milepost 336+748', in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County. The railway plans to remove the crossing panels, surface through the crossing, and replace the panels and asphalt. This will take place starting on Saturday, April 26, 2014 and ending on Monday, April 28, 2014, requiring a full-lane closure from 04-26-14 at 6:00 am to 04-28-14 at 11:59 pm. >> BAYVIEW DRIVE: The City of Fort Lauderdale is responding to a minor utility line break on Bayview Drive at NE 17th Street. Motorists traveling on Bayview Drive are being detoured between NE 15th Street and NE 18th Street. Northbound traffic on Bayview Drive is being detoured west on NE 15th Street, then north on NE 26th Avenue and east on NE 18th Street to Bayview Drive. Southbound traffic on Bayview Drive is being detoured west on NE 18th Street, South on NE 26th Avenue and east on NE 15th Street to Bayview Drive. Water and sewer service is not expected to be affected while repairs are being made. A temporary utility line bypass has been set up and repair work is underway. Motorists are advised to reduce speed in the area and follow the posted detour routes. Motorists may expect delays during peak traffic periods. Roadways in the marked construction zone are open to local traffic only.

NOTE: Unfavorable ground water conditions have increased the time required to effect repairs. They are now expected to be complete by Thursday, April 24.

>> Eller Drive east of the I-595/US 1 interchange at Port Everglades

  • One eastbound lane of I-595 entering Port Everglades will be closed as needed Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • Intermittent lanes may be closed in either direction within the project limits Monday through Friday at all times.

>> Sunrise Boulevard Bridge over the Middle River

  • The north sidewalk along Sunrise Boulevard from U.S. 1 to Middle River Drive will be closed through mid-May. This closure includes the crosswalk at NE 20th Avenue. Pedestrians will be detoured to the crosswalk at US 1 where they may access the south sidewalk.
  • One of the two left turn lanes from northbound Middle River Drive to westbound Sunrise Boulevard will be closed through early 2016.
  • One westbound lane of Sunrise Boulevard between U.S. 1 and Middle River Drive is closed through early 2016. Two lanes are open for westbound traffic.
  • One eastbound lane of Sunrise Boulevard between U.S. 1 and Middle River Drive is closed through early 2016. Two lanes are open for eastbound traffic.

>> East Las Olas Boulevard Bridge from SE25th Avenue to A1A in Fort Lauderdale

  • All lanes on the East Las Olas Boulevard Bridge will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, April 21 and ending Friday, April 25 to allow crews to paint the moveable span of the bridge. During the closure, all eastbound traffic will be detoured to Sunrise Boulevard via US 1 and all westbound traffic will be detoured to Sunrise Boulevard via A1A. See detour map PDF File.
  • All other times, two lanes are closed for construction through spring 2014. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.

>> Bridges of the Isles and Sunrise Key Bridges Replacement in Fort Lauderdale

  • One lane in each direction of Las Olas Boulevard from Nurmi Drive to Fiesta Way will be closed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • One lane of the Fiesta Way Bridge will be closed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.
  • One lane of the Nurmi Drive Bridge will be closed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone

>> I-95 Bridge Painting and Rehabilitation over the South Fork of the New River in Fort Lauderdale

  • The shoulder along northbound I-95 from SR 84/Marina Mile Boulevard to Davie Boulevard will be closed through Friday, April 25.
  • The shoulder along southbound I-95 from Davie Boulevard to SR 84/Marina Mile Boulevard will be closed through Friday, April 25.
  • The shoulder along the southbound I-95 ramp to both directions of I-595 will be closed through Friday, April 25.

>> Traffic Signal Pivotal Hangers Project in Broward County

  • One lane of the exit ramp from northbound I-95 to SR 84 will be closed Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

>> Signalization Installation Project on State Road 84 at I-95 in Fort Lauderdale

  • One lane of the exit ramp from northbound I-95 to SR 84 will be closed Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

>> US 1 near Port Everglades & Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport

  • All northbound and southbound lanes of US 1 are shifted to the east between Griffin Road and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport interchange for construction of the new runway through early 2014.
  • One northbound and one southbound lane of US 1 are closed at the I-595 interchange for construction at the airport through early 2014.

>> Broward County's Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division will be painting the Southeast Third Avenue Bridge, Fort Lauderdale, beginning March 31, and concluding on or before July 3, barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays. Crews will power wash and remove existing coatings and rust and apply new paint.

Residents and vehicular traffic can expect temporary lane closures; however, vehicular traffic over the bridge will be maintained in each direction at all times. The bridge will remain operational during the project and can be raised to accommodate marine traffic.

>> Pearl Flagler Village, LLC is building a development along NE 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. They have received approval (Revocable License) from the City Commission to close the following roads (see the MOT Plan PDF File) for a period of 18-months starting on April 1, 2013.

  1. Northbound of NE 5th Avenue between NE 4th and NE 5th Streets,
  2. All lanes of NE 5th Terrace between NE 4th and NE 5th Streets, and
  3. All lanes of NE 5th Street between North Federal Highway and NE 5th Avenue.
