To prevent further damage and as a public safety precaution, the bridge was closed for emergency repairs.

Since the closure, assessments have been completed and plans have been developed to make the needed repairs. The contractor is continuing work on the project and progressing as planned; however, during the repair efforts additional damage has been uncovered that will require some added work. Based on these additional repair requirements, it is estimated that the work will be completed by the end of October 2014, depending upon the weather and the seasonal tides.

In the meantime, motorists may access Federal Highway by way of NE 51st Street, Bayview Drive or Commercial Boulevard.

The waterway under the bridge remains open to boat traffic.
