Community Area Planning Book 2000
Part 1, Section IV: Identifying
Each Community Area
Before staff can begin to bring people
together into a collaborative effort, the community
areas had to be determined.
Once the areas were identified, the
following criteria were applied to help prioritize
the order in which the five community areas will be
studied:
- development activity;
- existing community redevelopment area programs;
- amount of vacant properties;
- planning projects, programs, initiatives;
- crime statistics; and
- regional issues.
Part II of this report provides the
details of the five community areas proposed, and the
criteria utilized to prioritize each area.
A challenge of the CAP initiative
will be to recognize each community area's uniqueness
and avoid a carbon copy approach in dealing with issues,
while simultaneously discerning how each area is inextricably
linked to all other CAPs, as has been identified in
the City's adopted American Assembly Vision of the
City. Therefore, it is important to link each CAP to
form an extensive strategic plan that will drive sustainability
and future development. Regional issues, such as waterways,
interstate systems, road networks, etc., are additional
ways in which the CAP areas will be tied together.
