To mark this momentous occasion, the City Commission established a Centennial Celebration Committee. This volunteer committee has planned a yearlong celebration of exciting public events and fascinating educational programs to celebrate Fort Lauderdale’s past, present and future.

Fort Lauderdale Celebrates Its 100th Anniversary
On Sunday, March 27, the City of Fort Lauderdale Celebrated the 100th anniversary of the date of incorporation. Centennial Riverfest, sponsored by AutoNation, was a free outdoor event that took place from noon - 8:00 p.m. along the Riverwalk in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Live music, entertainment, children's activities, fireworks and food and craft vendors participated in four different event areas. View the video below to see the festivities.
About the Centennial Celebration Committee
Chaired by former Mayor and U.S. Congressman E. Clay Shaw, the Centennial Celebration Committee was comprised of 20 Fort Lauderdale residents with ties to the local business, historical, educational and cultural communities. Committee members draw on their diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise to plan an inclusive commemoration that appeals to residents, businesses and visitors.
About the Centennial Logo
The City Commission selected the logo that will be used to commemorate Fort Lauderdale’s 100th Anniversary in 2011. Designed by S. Mark Graphics in conjunction with students from the Art Institute, the logo will serve as the City’s signature mark of the Centennial celebration.
