Commissioner Bobby B. DuBose - District 3


Commissioner Bobby B. DuBoseBobby B. DuBose was elected to the Fort Lauderdale City Commission District III seat on March 10, 2009. DuBose is a native son of Fort Lauderdale and resides in the first neighborhood he called home, Dorsey Riverbend.

Biographical Information

Commissioner DuBose received his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Florida. During his collegiate years, he worked as a Resident Assistant (RA); was elected Vice President of Student Government; and became a member of the Florida Blue Key, the oldest and most prestigious leadership honorary in the State of Florida.

After graduation, Commissioner DuBose returned to his hometown neighborhood, where he learned the true meaning of “to whom much is given, much is required.”

Commissioner DuBose recognized the importance of community service at an early age. He served as president of the Fort Lauderdale Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s (NAACP) Youth Council where he worked with CEO’s from numerous corporations, including FPL and Bellsouth, to produce the council’s Youth Entrepreneurship Banquet. In addition, he coordinated the organization’s annual Christmas Toy Giveaway that provides toys to underprivileged children throughout the community.

Commissioner DuBose’s service to the Fort Lauderdale Branch of the NAACP has also included serving as an Executive Committee Member and Co-chair for the NAACP’s Friends of ACT-SO, the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics.

In addition to his work with the NAACP, Commissioner DuBose’s civic affiliations have also included serving as President of the Fort Lauderdale Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity for three consecutive terms, as well as serving on the Broward County Living Wage Advisory Board, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Board, Fort Lauderdale Marine Advisory Board, and Florida Ocean Sciences Institute (FOSI) Board.

During his tenure as a member of the Fort Lauderdale Marine Advisory Board, Commissioner DuBose and his colleagues provided recommendations to the City Commission on all phases of operation, activities, regulations, advertising, and publicity for the waterways of the City.

Commissioner DuBose began his professional career with State Farm Insurance Company in 1996. Today, he is self-employed in the insurance industry and also operates his own company, DuBose Ventures, LLC.

Commissioner DuBose is married to the former Yvette Culver and the proud father of Ethan Joshua. He is an active member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church.

As City Commissioner representing District III, Bobby DuBose is prepared to give back to the community where he was born and raised. He is truly “from the community” and “for the community.”
