As part of the nationwide Drinking Water Week recognized annually each May, the City, in partnership with the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA), celebrates our drinking water and the importance of conserving it. One of the ways we do this is through the annual Drop Savers Water Conservation Art Contest.
The City of Fort Lauderdale, in partnership with the FSAWWA, sponsored the Drop Savers contest to celebrate Drinking Water Week, which is recognized this year May 5-11, 2013.
The Drop Savers contest is designed to promote water awareness and the importance of water conservation through creative thinking and design. Students in grades K-8 from Fort Lauderdale public, private, and charter schools participated in the contest. Entries were submitted by more than 100 students who used their own ideas, designs, and slogans to create designs that demonstrated their knowledge and understanding about the importance of conserving water.
The contest winners, along with their families and their teachers, attended a recent Fort Lauderdale City Commission meeting and were publicly recognized for their achievements. They were also presented with a T-shirt with their winning design printed on it, a Barnes & Noble gift card, and a plaque.
The first place winners’ entries from each grade category were submitted into the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association’s statewide competition.
