This holiday season promises to be the best yet, with numerous events for everyone sponsored by the City of Fort Lauderdale.
Kwanzaa Celebration
The City of Fort Lauderdale will pay homage to the 6th principle of Kwanzaa from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, December 31, 2007. Kuumba, which means creativity, will be celebrated through ethnic dances, tribal storytelling, art exhibits, stage performances and a Karamu Feast of native foods. The free celebration will take place at Bass Park, located at 2750 NW 19th Street. For more information, please call Bass Park at 954-828-8498.
New Year's Eve Downtown Countdown
The City of Fort Lauderdale invites you to the annual New Year's Eve Downtown Countdown to ring in the New Year. This free event will take place on Monday, December 31, 2007 on SW 2nd Street, between SW 2nd Avenue and SW 4th Avenue.
The spectacular celebration will feature activities for the whole family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and kids can enjoy an early Countdown at 7 p.m. when the ball will be lit. Live musical entertainment will begin at 9 p.m. and will continue until 3 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 2008.
At the stroke of midnight, a lighted ball will drop from the sky at the intersection of SW 2nd Street and SW 2nd Avenue to officially kick-off 2008. For more information, call the event hotline at 954-828-5363.
