Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescues Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) system operates 12 transporting Advanced
Life Support (ALS) rescue units and 12 non-transporting
Advanced Life Support (ALS) engines that respond to a
variety of fire, medical, chemical and tactical rescue
emergencies. Operating seven days a week, 24 hours a day,
these units are staffed with a minimum of two paramedics
trained in ALS procedures using state-of-the-art equipment.
The EMS Bureau is responsible for providing the highest
quality pre-hospital emergency medical services to the
citizens and visitors of the City of Fort Lauderdale.
The EMS Bureau assures that the Departments medical
services comply with all local, state and federal laws
that govern pre-hospital emergency medical services in
Florida. The Bureau also assures that each paramedic and
emergency medical technician (EMT) maintains the highest
quality standards of care and training. As required by
the state of Florida, each paramedic and EMT must be recertified
every two years. For this recertification requirement,
the Fire-Rescue Department provides its paramedics and
EMTs the most advanced training and techniques available
in emergency medicine today.
Fort Lauderdales EMS Bureau provides
EMS services for many sporting and special events occurring
annually throughout the City. These events include the
Baltimore Orioles spring training, Miami Dolphins pre-season
scrimmage, AAU National
Championships at Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex,
Broward County School Board athletic events, McDonald's
Air & Sea
Show, Promenade in the Park, Las Olas Arts
Festival,
July 4th Family Celebration,
Fort Lauderdale
International Boat Show, Winterfest Boat Parade
and many other local City and civic events.
Emergency Medical Stand-By Services
Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue Department provides services
for community events in accordance with City commission
policy. Services are delivered on a cost-neutral/expense-only
basis. The number of people and participants in attendance
(the minimum attendance being 500) determines the number
of rescue units and command officers. Other risk factors
determine the number of rescue units required.
EMS fee schedule:
- ALS rescue unit charge is $75 per hour per
team with a four-hour minimum. A team consists of two
paramedics and one ALS unit.
- Command Officer charge is $25 per hour. A command
officer is needed for two or more teams.
The Accounts Receivable senior
accounting clerk coordinates the staffing, billing and
collection of special event details.
