Payroll
Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue has four employee categories:
management, International Association of Fire Fighters
(IAFF), confidential and Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary
(FOPA). Management, confidential and FOPA employees are
paid an hourly rate, with the rate based on the range
established for a 40-hour workweek. IAFF employees are
paid on a 48-hour workweek. Payroll periods are bi-weekly.
Operations has a 21-day, three-platoon rotating cycle
of 24-hour continuous tours of duty, with one normally
scheduled tour of duty Kelly Day every seventh
shift.
Payroll is responsible for reviewing, processing and
auditing daily payroll for the department's complex payroll
system.
Timekeeping with TeleStaff
TeleStaff software is the integral foundation for Fort
Lauderdale Fire-Rescue daily staffing activities. TeleStaff
incorporates complex organizational or collective bargaining
rules for fair and accurate staffing decisions. Staffing
can be an extremely complicated and labor-intensive task
that takes valuable time away from the real job at hand.
TeleStaff also has a communications component to enable
management to control staffing activities via PC, telephone,
cell phone, fax and/or e-mail. Staff members can make
scheduling requests using a TeleStaff PC or any touch-tone
telephone. Since TeleStaff can make multiple phone calls
simultaneously, it is the ideal solution for emergency
and other staffing recalls.
Employee Records
The Employee Records Unit processes documents for new
hires, promotions, pensions, leave of absences, transfers and reassignments. It administers an eligible list appointment
procedure for all department ranks. Moreover, this unit
maintains all Fire-Rescue employee records.
