The Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue Department (FLFD) Training & Special Operations Bureau is responsible for the initial training and continual education for our nearly 400 firefighters. The Bureau’s mission is to reinforce the concepts of both competence and compassion in all programs we provide or support. We do this through many different forms of learning to include traditional lectures, video, use of technology such as the City’s intranet system; web-based formats and hands-on training (H.O.T).

The Training Bureau is located in a state- of-the-art facility located at 2200 Executive Airport Way. Opened in June 2008, the training facility is combined with the city Emergency Operations Center and Fire Station 53.
The Training Bureau is currently working to enhance its ability to provide training and maintain records through several initiatives such as:
- Implementation of a paperless record management system
- Documentation of all training through the use of the Fire RMS (Sunpro) System
- Acquired structures training program
