The year 2007
marks the 29th anniversary for the City of
Fort
Lauderdale as host of the YMCA National Short
Course Swimming & Diving Championships.
Athletes range in age from 12-18 years old.
The YMCA
Nationals is known for fast swimming and
spirited participants. At no other national
swimming championship will a more enthusiastic
group of athletes be found. Nearly 4,000
out-of-town visitors attend the event each
year - primarily from the Midwest and Eastern
states and from as far away as Washington
and Oregon. The economic impact for
this amateur sporting event is
estimated at four million dollars.
Participants
stay five to seven days in the greater Fort
Lauderdale area. Florida teams annually include
Sarasota,
Orlando and the North Central Florida YMCA
of Gainesville.
Opening
Ceremony
Unique
to the championship is the Opening Ceremony,
Monday, April 2, featuring the parade of
athletes. Teams cast aside their traditional
uniforms for creative costumes and fashions
as they march to the "YMCA" beat.
YMCA
Masters Nationals
Will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
