Welcome Friends and Neighbors:
If you live in any of 21 neighborhoods encompassing the main portions of central and coastal Fort Lauderdale, it is my honor to represent you on the City Commission.
Our city keeps moving forward, having recently been honored as an All-America City by the National Civic League. Fort Lauderdale is ranked as one of the most exciting places in the nation to live and one of the best places for businesses to operate. Our unemployment numbers are below the state of Florida and national average. We also are among the top American vacation destinations, with visitors spending a record $10.6 billion last year in the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
Fort Lauderdale also takes pride in its growing diversity.
Census data shows Fort Lauderdale as the city with the highest concentration of same-sex couple households in the nation. Greater Fort Lauderdale has hundreds of LGBT-owned businesses and annually welcomes more than 1.3 million LGBT visitors. These tourists spent more than $1.5 billion here last year. We are home to one of the nation’s largest Metropolitan Community Church congregations, the Sunshine Cathedral; the Stonewall National Museum and Archives, which is the largest and only permanent space in the United States devoted to the display of exhibitions relating to LGBT culture and history; and the World AIDS Museum, the only museum in the world dedicated to tell the story of the disease and those who have been affected by it.
My promise is to make sure we have a quality of life that is the best it can be. As your District 2 commissioner, I have fought for responsible growth, community involvement in development decisions, increased fiscal responsibility in city government and a wide variety of critical improvement projects in our neighborhoods.
Together, we can make Fort Lauderdale an even better place to live.
