rogers150Romney Rogers was elected Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner representing District IV on March 10, 2009 and was reelected for a second three-year term on March 13, 2012. In January 2015, he ran unopposed for his final three years as Commissioner. He will be term-limited in March of 2018.

Biographical Information

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Commissioner  Rogers attended Southside Elementary School and Rogers Junior High School, which was named after his grandfather, Dwight L. Rogers, who was the first U.S. Congressman from Fort Lauderdale. In 1971, Commissioner Rogers graduated from Stranahan High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Rutgers University in 1975 and a Juris Doctorate from Mercer University Law School in 1978. Commissioner Rogers has been a partner in the law firm of Rogers, Morris & Ziegler since 1981, a firm that was founded by his grandfather in 1925.

Commissioner  Rogers has been actively involved in the Fort Lauderdale community for more than three decades. His professional and civic affiliations include serving as President of the Broward County Bar Association, young lawyer section, and as a board member or chair of numerous business and community organizations, including Chair of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.

He has served as Secretary/Trustee of the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Police and Fire Pension Board, overseeing a $500 million pension fund. He is a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Broward Housing Partnership, co-chair of the Fort Lauderdale Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Committee, and a member of the Board of Directors of SunTrust Bank/South Florida.

Commissioner  Rogers was appointed by the city commission to the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association Board in 2009 and currently serves as the board secretary. He also served as the city commission’s appointment to the Tourist Development Council of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau from 2009-2011.

As President of Stranahan House, Commissioner Rogers initiated an endowment to ensure its continued maintenance and support. During his tenure as President of the Fort Lauderdale Rotary Club, he established a partnership with the City and neighborhood residents to create Virginia Young Park. He served on the City‘s Historic Preservation Board and coached youth soccer, football and baseball at Holiday Park and Floyd Hull Stadium for 12 years.

Professionally, Commissioner  Rogers has acted as a City Attorney for two separate cities, where he advised City Commissioners, drafted municipal ordinances, negotiated union contracts and successfully prosecuted pornographic purveyors for maintaining public nuisances.

He is an active member of First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, where he has served as Chairman of the Deacons, a Trustee and taught small group classes.

Commissioner Rogers and his wife, Candace, have been married for 37 years. They have two adult sons, Dwight L. Rogers, IV and Romney C. Rogers, Jr. and a daughter-in-law, Dwight's wife Blaire Rogers.

As a City Commissioner, Romney Rogers has pledged to face every challenge with an open mind in order to find the best possible solution, not only for District IV, but for the community-at-large. He will work diligently, with integrity, always adhering to the highest ethical standards.
