2012 Community Appearance Board Neighborhood and Business Recognition Awards

Introduction

The City of Fort Lauderdale's Community Appearance Board (CAB) is dedicated to presenting events and award programs geared toward improving the City’s overall appearance. As part of its ongoing mission, the CAB is pleased to introduce the Neighborhood and Business Recognition Awards.

The purpose of these awards is to provide additional opportunities for the CAB to not only recognize individual properties and businesses, but to acknowledge and reward collaborative projects that improve the quality of life and revitalize and enrich neighborhoods as a whole.

Eligibility

Any homeowners/civic association, residential/neighborhood group, or business organization within the City of Fort Lauderdale’s boundaries that has collectively developed and completed a project during 2011 is invited to nominate it for an award.

The project should reflect a combination of social, physical, and collaborative revitalization efforts. It should also include hands-on work by members of the community and the focus should be generating positive change through neighborhood improvement. Examples of these types of projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Neighborhood cleanups
  • Waterway cleanups
  • Green spaces
  • Park improvements
  • Litter control projects
  • Graffiti cleanups
  • “Adopt a neighbor” home improvement projects

Judging

The CAB will judge submitted projects for the Neighborhood and Business Recognition Awards based on how well they:

  • Physically revitalize or beautify the community’s overall appearance
  • Positively change the quality of life through diverse, hands-on activities
  • Reflect strong evidence of creative, innovative grass roots initiatives, including partnerships with public and private entities and other neighborhoods, businesses, and community-based groups
  • Actively engage in problem solving, project management, volunteer contributions, wide-scale participation, sustainable outcomes, etc.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and collaboration to complete goals

Recognition and Awards Program

The Neighborhood Association and Business Awards winners will be announced at the City of Fort Lauderdale’s annual Community Appearance Awards event. For more information, e-mail cab@fortlauderdale.gov or call 954-828-7843.
