Rescue TruckThe City of Fort Lauderdale has a rich history of continuous ocean lifesaving services, dating back to 1926. Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue is USLA certified and nationally recognized for excellence.

Contributions to Ocean Lifesaving

  • Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue continues to serve in a national leadership role, contributing to the profession of ocean lifesaving.
  • 2000 to present- Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue Captain elected Vice-President of the Florida Ocean Rescue Chief’s Association.
  • 2005 Florida Beach Safety Educational Workshop & Conference – Keynote speaker for this state-wide symposium facilitated by the Florida Beach Patrol Chiefs Association & the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
  • 2004-2005 USLA Lifeguard Training Academy Instructors in Destin, Florida - Successfully trained over 60 students for Destin State Fire District Chief Tuffy Dixon. The lifeguard training academy was completed March 13th, 2004, and was commissioned so that Destin could field its first professional lifeguard service.
  • 2000 Fort Lauderdale Beach Lifeguard, Christine McCrady named “Lifeguard of the Year”.
