"Ocean Smart" Curriculum
 The "Ocean Smart" Curriculum is a comprehensive ocean/water safety course developed to teach children in kindergarten through fifth grades important ocean/water safety prevention and survival skills. The curriculum is structured for two groups: kindergarten through second grades and third through fifth grades. Participating students will learn positive ocean/waster safety behaviors that will extend into adulthood. These lessons benefit participants now, but the learned behaviors will ultimately have a favorable long-range impact on ocean/water safety in Fort Lauderdale.
The "smart" curriculum consists of a unit plan for language arts and science instructors, with applicable State of Florida Educator Standards, essential questions, vocabulary, key objectives, and assessment activities. Additionally, there are pre- and post-tests, along with teacher evaluations as a part of the curriculum administration. Student materials for all grade levels consist of a student activity book, certificate of completion, and stickers.
