Historic Preservation Design Guidelines Project
The City of Fort Lauderdale is in the process of creating a comprehensive historic preservation program. Important steps in this goal has been to complete historic sites surveys of neighborhoods, revise the existing preservation ordinance and pursue the status of a Certified Local Government (CLG) so as to be eligible for grant monies. Recently Fort Lauderdale was awarded a (CLG) Grant from the State of Florida to develop design guidelines for repair and alterations to the City’s historic architectural resources.
The benefits of guidelines will assist the historic preservation board, and elected officials in making fair and informed decisions regarding improvements that have impact on historic properties. They will also provide an educational reference for owners of designated historic buildings and other older properties within the community.
As part of this effort, the city hired the firm Preservation Design Partnership, Inc (PDP) to serve as the project consultant to work with the Historic Preservation Board and the community. The project was begun July 1, 2011 and will be completed by June 30, 2012. The following draft sections of this document are available for your review.
