Planning Initiatives
The Planning & Zoning Department implements a variety of planning initiatives, typically aimed at developing a vision or set of guidelines for the future development of an area, including:
Downtown Master Plan
On November 18, 2003, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission accepted the Consolidated Downtown Master Plan by resolution. An update to the 2003 Master Plan is currently being developed .
South Andrews Avenue Master Plan
The Fort Lauderdale City Commission approved the South Andrews Avenue Master Plan on May 18, 2004. The City is currently in the process of developing form-based zoning code for the study area to guide redevelopment along the corridor.
Davie Boulevard Corridor Master Plan
The Davie Boulevard Corridor Master Plan will be presented to the City Commission in the spring of 2006. The planning effort has incorporated public input and redevelopment considerations into an integrated vision and strategy.
North US1 Urban Design Plan
This planning project will focus on the Federal Highway corridor (or North US1) from Sunrise Boulevard to the City’s northern corporate limits. Recommendations regarding building height, scale, massing, and transitions to adjacent residential neighborhoods will be created.
Riverside Park Neighborhood Character Plan
The Riverside Park Resident’s Association, together with the Planning & Zoning Department, are in the process of creating a neighborhood plan to identify the unique characteristics of the area and to encourage compatible future development.
Central Beach Master Plan
The purpose of the Central Beach Master Plan and Las Olas Gateway Plan is to determine future development patterns and public improvements in the beach area.
