Annexation Rezoning of Melrose Park and Riverland Road Area

Annexation Rezoning Process

The City of Fort Lauderdale’s Annexation Rezoning Process for the Melrose Park and Riverland Road communities is currently underway.

The purpose of the rezoning process is to give residents in Melrose Park and the Riverland Road area an opportunity to provide input about the unique characteristics of each neighborhood and work with the City on proposed zoning criteria for the community.

The process began with open house meetings in each neighborhood. Residents were provided with an overview of the rezoning process, as well as information to review in preparation for neighborhood workshops. The City then sponsored a series of workshops for residents to provide input regarding the future zoning regulations that will govern their property. Residents were provided with comparisons and asked their preferences between the current Broward County Zoning Code requirements that govern their area and the City of Fort Lauderdale's closest equivalent zoning classification.

Follow-up public meetings with Riverland and Melrose took place to present the results of the workshops and discuss and obtain input on the proposed draft zoning ordinances.

The proposed zoning ordinance will now be presented to the Planning & Zoning Board and the City Commission for review and adoption.
