Assistant Chief Steve Kinsey
Responsibilities: Steve Kinsey has served the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since December of 1991. Steve has been assigned to the Patrol Division, the Special Investigations Division and the Special Problems Unit. Steve holds a Masters of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida State University and is currently attending the FBI National Academy. Steve has received 13 departmental commendations and 29 public commendations. Steve’s new assignment is Assistant Chief of the Investigations Division.
History: As an officer, Steve served in the Operations Bureau/Patrol Division, and as a detective in the Special Investigations Division, Street Narcotics Unit, R.I.C.O Unit, Major Narcotics Unit and the DEA Task Force. Since being promoted to Sergeant in August 1999, Steve has served in the Operations Bureau, Patrol Division as a Special Problems Unit supervisor and midnight shift patrol supervisor. He was a Detective Sergeant in the Street Narcotics Unit up until his promotion to Captain. Captain Kinsey has spent the last year in Operations as the District 2 Executive Officer. Currently Captain Kinsey is in charge of the Special Investigations Division. Captain Kinsey has received 20 public commendations and 10 departmental commendations.
