| History: | Captain Spector has been a member of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since June 1982. He served in the Patrol Division for 16 years, primarily on midnight shift. His assignments included five years as a Patrol Officer, three as a Field Training Officer and eight as a Patrol Sergeant. He was also the primary instructor for all tactical and firearms training and, from 1989 through 1995, served on the SWAT Team as both a team member and team leader. From January 1999 through June 2002, Captain Spector supervised the Training Unit, performing both administrative and instructive roles. His responsibilities included teaching an array of subjects, management of the training budget and files, assisting the Accreditation Unit in reviewing policies and providing considerable information for various grant projects. He was also directly involved in the planning, coordination and presentation of numerous Citizen Police Academies. During his tenure in the Training Unit, the Department was equipped with a state of the art fitness facility, driving simulator and video editing system. Captain Spector is accredited with instructor certification in ten areas related to defensive tactics, firearms and non-lethal weapons skills, officer safety, ethics and physical well being. He has received 16 Departmental and 21 Civilian commendations. |
