City of Fort Lauderdale Traffic Advisory for January 13, 2007

Fort Lauderdale - A procession and memorial service for City of Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue Firefighter John W. Bruce will result in traffic delays for motorists on Saturday, January 13, 2007. 

The vehicle procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Kalis-McIntee Funeral Home, located at 2505 N. Dixie Highway (Wilton Manors).  The procession will proceed west on N.E. 26 Street (Wilton Drive) to N.E. 4 Avenue; south on N.E. 4 Avenue to Broward Boulevard; west on Broward Boulevard to S.W. 5 Avenue; south on S.W. 5 Avenue to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 S.W. 5 Avenue).  Motorists are encouraged to avoid the procession route from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. The memorial service is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Broward Center’s Amaturo Theater.

A large number of Fire-Rescue agencies will attend the funeral service.  To accommodate vehicle parking, the following traffic restrictions will be in effect from 8:00 a.m. – noon on Saturday, January 13, 2007:

  • S.W. 2 Street will be closed from S.W. 4 Avenue to S.W. 7 Avenue.
  • S.W. 5 Avenue from Broward Boulevard to S.W. 2 Street will have limited access to accommodate the staging of Fire-Rescue vehicles.  The Broward Center for the Performing Arts Parking Garage will be used primarily for the funeral ceremony.
  • Motorists will experience traffic delays along the procession route from the Broward Center for the Performing Arts to the cemetery at Lauderdale Memorial Park.  Following the service, the procession will depart from the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and head south on S.W. 7 Avenue/S.W. 4 Avenue to Lauderdale Memorial Park, located at State Road 84 and S.W. 4 Avenue.

In addition to heavy traffic along the procession routes, motorists should expect traffic delays and limited access in the area bounded by Broward Boulevard (north); S.W. 2 Street (south); S.W. 1 Avenue (east) and S.W. 7 Avenue (west) in downtown Fort Lauderdale from 8:00 a.m. - noon on Saturday, January 13, 2007.  Please consider using alternate travel routes to avoid this area of downtown Fort Lauderdale during these hours.
