Challenge Air “Fly Day” to Offer Free Plane Rides to Physically Challenged Children on Jan. 27

Fort Lauderdale - More than 150 physically challenged youngsters in South Florida will experience the wonders of aviation at the 11th Annual Challenge Air “Fly Day” at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.  The event will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Banyan Air Service, located at 5340 N.W. 20  Terrace, Hangar 60, in the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport complex (see directions below).

Directions to Banyan Air Service, Hangar 60:
From I-95, exit Commercial Blvd and head west to NW 21 Ave.  Turn right on NW 21 Ave and proceed north to NW 53 Street.  Turn right on NW 53 Street and proceed east to NW 20 Terrace.  Turn left on NW 20 Terrace.  Hangar 60 will be on your right between A-OK Jets and the new Banyan terminal.

From the Turnpike, exit Commercial Blvd and head east to NW 21 Ave.  Turn left on NW 21 Ave and proceed north to NW 53 Street.  Turn right on NW 53 Street and proceed east to NW 20 Terrace.  Turn left on NW 20 Terrace.  Hangar 60 will be on your right between A-OK Jets and the new Banyan terminal.

Challenge Air Fly Day will offer disabled and seriously ill children free 30-minute plane rides.  The single-engine planes will be flown by a group of 35 disabled and able-bodied pilots who are donating their time and services to the event.  The plane rides will depart from Banyan Air Service at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and fly over numerous points of local interest.  While on-board, children will have an opportunity to watch the disabled pilots as they fly their specially equipped airplanes with hand controls. 

Highlights of the event will also include aircraft on display, an educational ground school, clowns, face painting, music, food, refreshments and other activities.

Established in 1993, Challenge Air for Kids and Friends is a Texas-based, non-profit organization dedicated to the education and inspirational advancement of disabled and seriously ill children through aviation.
