Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale has launched a Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest for Fort Lauderdale public and private school students in grades K-12. Sponsored by the Public Works Department's Utilities Bureau, the contest invites students to create a "T-Shirt" poster using their own creative ideas and designs to promote water conservation awareness.

Students interested in participating in the contest may call 954-828-7882 to receive contest guidelines and an official entry form. Contest information and entry forms may also be downloaded from the City's website at www.fortlauderdale.gov. The deadline to submit entries is Monday, March 12, 2007.

The City will select three winners from each of the following grade categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Winners will receive a T-shirt with their winning design printed on it, a gift card, and a plaque. The winning designs will be posted on the City's website and may be reproduced in other City of Fort Lauderdale publications. In addition, the winners, their families, and their teachers will be invited to attend a televised City Commission meeting where the students will be publicly recognized for their achievement.

Winning designs will be entered in a state competition sponsored by the Florida Section/American Water Works Association (FS/AWWA). Students selected as state winners by the FS/AWWA will receive a gift card, a T-shirt with their winning design printed on it, and a certificate.
