Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale, in partnership with Broward County, the City of Dania Beach, the Town of Davie, and the Marina Mile 84 Association, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Marina Mile 84 Beautification Project. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 19, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Broward County Police Benevolent Association, located at 2650 W. State Road 84 in Fort Lauderdale.

The ceremony culminates a nine-year public-private partnership that was implemented to generate and promote economic development and to attract new businesses along the Marina Mile corridor and the New River area.

Collaboration between the five organizations resulted in more than $100,000 in enhancements to the corridor including the installation of 112 new Sabal Palm trees, the relocation of 39 Sabal Palm trees, as well as additional landscaping; street lighting; and the installation of two red, white and yellow nautical buoy signs, which are symbolic of the surrounding marine district.

Funding for the project was shared by Broward County, the City of Dania Beach, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Marina Mile 84 Association, the Town of Davie, and the City of Fort Lauderdale, through its Business Capital Improvement Grant Program.

Designated by the state as the "Marina Mile," this highly traveled stretch of roadway is home to more than 30 marine and marine-related facilities.
