Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale’s 2-month parking amnesty program raked in over 13,000 payments in April, saving parking ticket holders in excess of $75,000 in late fees.

Revenues from the amnesty program amounted to almost $130,000 in April.

The one-time offer to forgive late penalties on parking tickets has drawn responses from as far away as Argentina, England and Canada. According to City officials, several rental car agencies are also taking advantage of the penalty waiver to wipe their records clean.

The amnesty program helps ticket holders avoid further penalties and punishment. Unpaid tickets can result in the blocked renewal of license plates and collection agency action. Delinquent ticket holders may also have their vehicles restrained with the “boot,” a device that locks onto a wheel to prevent movement.

Several payment options are available to ticket holders:

  • Online: Visa & MasterCard accepted at www.fortlauderdale.gov/parkingtickets
  • By phone: Visa & MasterCard accepted at 954.828.3700
  • By mail: Mail to City of Fort Lauderdale Payment Processing Center, P.O. Box 14790, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33302
  • In person: 290 N.E. 3rd Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Hours: Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri 7:45am-4pm; Thurs 7:45am-5:30pm
