Fort Lauderdale - The Broward County Health Department is advising people not to swim at the beach near Bahia Mar and A1A in Fort Lauderdale. Samples of beach water collected at this area did not meet recommended state requirements. All other areas of Fort Lauderdale Beach remain open for swimming.
Due to the Health Department’s Advisory, a four-block stretch of Fort Lauderdale beach between lifeguard towers #1 and #4 is closed to swimming. The area stretches from the 600 block of A1A to the 1000 block of A1A.
Swimming is prohibited in this area until appropriate testing of the water is completed with satisfactory results. Test results are expected tomorrow afternoon (Thursday, October 16, 2008).
City of Fort Lauderdale Ocean-Rescue lifeguards will remain on duty at the beach during their normal hours.
