Fort Lauderdale - Ocean rescue lifeguards from across South Florida will showcase their medical training credentials at the Basic Life Support Challenge, a competitive event set for 3:30p, Friday, June 5, 2009 at Fort Lauderdale Beach near SE 5th Street.
Lifeguards will be judged individually and as teams for their execution of medical emergency skills including defibrillation, airway management, trauma management and CPR.
The Basic Life Support Challenge in Fort Lauderdale is the third event in a four-part series scheduled at Pompano Beach, Delray Beach and Boca Raton. The events aim to create an educational experience empowering professional lifeguards to provide high quality prehospital care to patients.
For many participants, the South Florida competition serves as a training tool in preparation of the annual Bill Shearer International ALS/BLS Competition, to be held in Orlando on June 30, 2009. South Florida ocean rescue agencies have won 1st Place in the international competition eight times in the last 10 years.
