Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale has unanimously approved an amendment to its Economic Development Incentive Program Ordinance that reduces the minimum job creation requirement from 100 to 10. This amendment was based on findings and recommendations presented by the Broward Alliance CEO Council’s Headquarters Recruitment Strategic Blueprint. One of those recommendations is to make the City’s minimum job creation requirement match that of the state of Florida, which is currently 10.
“The City of Fort Lauderdale encourages small business development and recognizes this sector as critical to the long-term success of our economy. Updating our job creation requirements will enable us to present a more business-friendly image to site location specialists, and strengthen our position as a desirable destination for business attraction and relocation,“ said Jack Seiler, Mayor of Fort Lauderdale.
The Broward Alliance and the City of Fort Lauderdale have an important economic development partnership to attract, retain, expand and diversify business throughout the City. In addition to lowering the minimum job creation requirement, the Headquarters Recruitment Strategic Blueprint recommended that the Broward Alliance begin branding future recruitment initiatives throughout the county under the heading “Greater Fort Lauderdale” rather than “Broward County.” This recommendation is designed to raise awareness for the region and foster better name recognition for “Fort Lauderdale” in recruiting and marketing endeavors. The recommendation mirrors the strategy used by the “Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau” and other broad based agencies and organizations.
