Fort Lauderdale – The City of Fort Lauderdale is hitting the ground running this holiday season with the Third Annual Light up Sistrunk Celebration December 3, 2009 at 5:30 pm. Join our elected officials, the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County, and local high schools as we light up Sistrunk Boulevard ushering in the 2009 holiday season.

Be prepared for local outstanding talent to be on display! Join them as they bring us songs of the season as we await the grand finale – the lighting of Sistrunk Boulevard.

New this year – a red carpet walk! Get your smile camera-ready as you walk the walk for your photo opportunity. Also new this year – a giant tree for the corridor!

Bring your family, friends and neighbors to this ever-changing event. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Light Up Sistrunk is not only a celebration of the season but also a celebration of history and progress. The event allows a cross-section residents and business owners to come together and talk about what they want to see on the corridor in the future while observing the current progress. In the past year since Light Up Sistrunk 2008 – the City has seen the grand opening of the Sixth Street Plaza, the ground breaking of the Midtown Commerce Center, the commencement of the neighborhood enhancement project of Dorsey Riverbend, the completion of the Four 40 and the Alexan, and the beginning of the NW Neighborhood Enhancement project.

This year, Light Up Sistrunk has been branded. When you drive Sistrunk this year, you will see light pole banners announcing the event and a street light banner as you enter the corridor from the west at Sistrunk and 7th. This year the backdrop of the performances is also branded with the Light Up Sistrunk signature. Just as last year, the event will be in front of 914 Sistrunk Boulevard, which is the home to the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency. The street will be closed from 9th to 10th Avenues on Sistrunk for the celebration.
