Fort Lauderdale – The City of Fort Lauderdale is hosting a variety of events throughout the city to honor February as Black History Month. For more information on any of these programs, please visit www.fortlauderdale.gov/life.

Remembering Our Roots
Remembering Our Roots will be held on Saturday, February 13 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Riverland Park, 950 S.W. 27th Avenue. This free program will feature live performances from several diverse musical, dance and specialty groups. Appearances will include the Riverland Elementary Chorus, the Riverland Fit Kidz Club, the Warfield Park Double Dutch team and the Roots and Culture dance team. Light refreshments will be served.

Kijiji Moja
Join us for the return of Kijiji Moja on Saturday, February 20 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Joseph C. Carter Park, 1450 W. Sunrise Boulevard. Kijiji Moja is Swahili for “one village.” Featured performances include Ballet Brika, an African dance troupe, and the U.S. Virgin Islands Mocko Jumbie Stilt Dancers. Communities unite through live entertainment, drumming circles, ethnic crafts, tribal storytelling and other inner-attainment. The event is free for the entire family and light refreshments will be served.

Sunset at Sunland Concert Series
The City of Fort Lauderdale in partnership with Youth Empowerment for a Better Tomorrow, Inc. and the Sistrunk Historical Festival, Inc. presents Sunset at Sunland, a free concert series.

Gospel in the Park kicks off this concert series on Sunday, February 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Joseph C. Carter Park, 1450 W. Sunrise Boulevard. Featuring Minister Eddie Robinson, bring your family and enjoy and afternoon of spiritual music, games and arts and crafts!

The concert series continues with Jazz in the Park, featuring Rachel Brown, on Friday, February 26 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Joseph C. Carter Park, 1450 W. Sunrise Boulevard. Enjoy an evening with your family listening to smooth jazz from local artists.
