Fort Lauderdale – The City of Fort Lauderdale is swiftly approaching its Centennial Celebration. In honor of our 100 years of incorporation, we are asking our citizens to give back to our community through community service projects.
During the last City Commission meeting, Tuesday, March 17, 2010 the City issued a proclamation stating that the next year be designated as the Mayor’s Volunteer Challenge Year – from March 2010 through February 2011.
Mayor Seiler believes that the citizens of Fort Lauderdale are not only going to step up to the challenge but will surpass the 100,000 hours of volunteer hours.
Genia Duncan Ellis, Chair of the Council of Civic Associations, has agreed to track the projects from all civic, religious, fraternal, school, neighborhood and other organizations that want to be included in the 100,000-hour count.
A barometer has been placed in the City Hall Lobby to show where the City is along the way in reaching our goal of 100,000 hours of community service hours over the next year. Additionally, a webpage has been created with volunteer and contact information, and a fillable volunteer challenge form that can be emailed, faxed, or mailed.
