Applications for City of Fort Lauderdale’s Community Appearance Awards Now Available

Fort Lauderdale - Applications for the City of Fort Lauderdale’s 33rd Annual Community Appearance Awards are now available on the City’s website at www.fortlauderdale.gov/neighborhoods. Interested applicants who do not have Internet access may e-mail cab@fortlauderdale.gov or call 954-828-7600 to request an application. The deadline to submit applications to the City is Friday, February 11, 2011 by 5 p.m.

Presented each year by the Fort Lauderdale City Commission and the Community Appearance Board, the awards recognize homeowners, homeowners associations, architects, developers and builders for projects that enhance the City's visual image and economic vitality. Applications may be submitted for either construction or renovation projects in one of eight categories, which include commercial, institutional, landscape/garden, multifamily residence, municipal facilities/parks & recreation, single family residence, retail or special projects.

In order for properties to be eligible for an award they must be located within the City of Fort Lauderdale's corporate limits and be visible from a public thoroughfare. New construction projects must have a Certificate of Occupancy or a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy issued by the City's Planning and Zoning Department between April 2009 and February 2011. Additional eligibility requirements are listed on the application.

The Community Appearance Board selects winning properties based on a site review of the project’s exterior, the structure and outdoor space, as well as how the project visually enhances the surrounding community.
