to Temporarily Close for Sewer Line Repair

Traffic Advisory Update: S.W. 2nd Street

Due to this week’s inclement weather, the paving of SW 2nd Street has been delayed. It is now scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 18. Road work is expected to be completed by the end of the day, Friday, August 19.  For more information, please contact the City of Fort Lauderdale 24-hour Customer Service Center at 954-828-8000 or online at www.fortlauderdale.gov/customerservice.

Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale will temporarily close the 200 block of S.W. 2nd Street, between S.W. 2nd and S.W. 3rd Avenue, for a minimum of three days beginning Monday, August 15 at 9 a.m.  The temporary road closure, which will be in effect 24 hours a day, is necessary to allow a City contractor to repair a sewer line. The City expects to reopen the roadway by early morning, Thursday, August 18.

The following detours will be in effect in the S.W. 2nd Street area beginning Monday, August 15 to assist motorists with avoiding the construction area:

  • Eastbound traffic on S.W. 2nd Street will be detoured north on S.W. 3rd Avenue/Nugent Avenue to W. Broward Boulevard.
  • Westbound traffic on S.W. 2nd Street will be detoured north on S.W. 1st Avenue to W. Broward Boulevard.

Message boards will be posted in the construction area to alert motorists of the traffic restrictions. Motorists should expect delays in and around the affected area and are reminded to travel slowly in the work zone to ensure the safety of workers, pedestrians and other motorists.

Restaurants and businesses will be open and accessible during the construction period via sidewalks on the north and south side of S.W. 2nd Street.
