Holiday Lighting Ceremony to Feature Live Musical Performances

Fort Lauderdale - Fort Lauderdale Beach will come alive when thousands of holiday lights
brighten the City’s picturesque beachfront at Light Up the Beach on Tuesday, November 22,
2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the corner of A1A and Las Olas Boulevard. This year’s holiday lighting
ceremony will feature live music in two locations to celebrate the City’s Centennial. Following
the holiday lighting ceremony at Las Olas and A1A, the Florida 9th District American Legion
Symphonic Band will perform a free outdoor holiday concert in D.C. Alexander Park, located
just down the street at 501 Seabreeze Boulevard.

6:00 p.m. - Music from the South Florida Chamber Ensemble
6:30 p.m. - Illumination of the Centennial “100” display and more than 10,000 holiday lights
D.C. Alexander Park (501 Seabreeze Boulevard)
7:00 p.m. - Free outdoor concert by the Florida 9th District American Legion Symphonic
Band
Light Up the Beach is free and open to the public. Elected officials, including Fort Lauderdale
Mayor Jack Seiler, along with local business, civic and community leaders are expected to be in
attendance to kick-off the festivities. In addition to live musical entertainment, the event will
feature street vendors along A1A and a kid’s play area in D.C. Alexander Park. The public is
encouraged to bring a new toy to D.C. Alexander Park for a holiday toy drive benefiting Kids In
Distress.
Light Up the Beach is sponsored by AutoNation, CH2M Hill, Nova Southeastern University,
FPL, Huizenga Holdings, Clear Channel, The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale, Kids in Distress,
City of Fort Lauderdale Beach Business Improvement District (BID), Fort Lauderdale Beach
Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of
Commerce Beach Council.
