Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale Utilities Bureau was recently named the winner of the 2011 Division 6 Distribution System Award by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA). The City captured top honors for demonstrating excellence in the performance, operation, and maintenance of its water distribution system. This is the second time in three years the Utilities Bureau has been selected as the winner of this award.
The City of Fort Lauderdale distribution and collection system services approximately 61,000 residential and commercial customers. FSAWWA committee members with years of professional and municipal work experience judged the City’s system based on information provided in seven categories: water quality, operations records, maintenance, professionalism, safety, emergency preparedness, and cross connection/control program. The committee also reviewed extensive supporting documentation included with the application.
"It’s an honor for the City's Utility Bureau to be recognized by the FSAWWA. This award is a testament to the hard work, knowledge, experience, and dedication of our employees. Their efforts make it possible for us to provide our water customers with outstanding service while keeping our rates among the lowest in Broward County," said Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler. "This achievement reinforces our commitment to efficiency, quality, safety, and professionalism, and it will continue to motivate us to maximize our capabilities."
