Families in need will receive a special treat just in time for Christmas when they receive free toys at the City of Fort Lauderdale’s War Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, December 22, 2011. Thirty-two families (with a combined total of 70 children) from the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center in Fort Lauderdale have been adopted by 1976 Boxing Olympic Gold Medalist and South Florida resident – Howard Davis, Jr.
The Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) is a not-for-profit organization that serves more than 10,000 children with special health care needs in Broward County.
"We wanted to make this Christmas special for those families who fight every day to bring comfort to their child’s life," said Howard Davis Jr. "What I had to go through in the ring is nothing compared to what these families live with on a daily basis," he adds.
On Thursday, December 22 from 10 a.m. to noon, the families will be treated to a holiday party in the lobby of the War Memorial Auditorium, located at 800 N.E. 8th Street in Fort Lauderdale. Refreshments and snacks will be served and Santa will be there to personally meet all of the families and deliver the toys.
