Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale will host a workshop to receive input from residents and business owners on how to improve Broward Boulevard. The workshop is open to the public and will take place on Saturday, August 4, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312.
At the workshop, attendees will work in small groups facilitated by a team of architects and urban designers to develop and prioritize ideas they would like to see implemented on Broward Boulevard. Areas of interest include land use, redevelopment and mobility.
“This workshop will be very interactive,” said City of Fort Lauderdale Senior Transportation Planner Renee Cross. “We will combine feedback received from attendees to determine what we can incorporate into our plans for the future design of Broward Boulevard.”
This opportunity for public participation is a part of the Broward Boulevard Gateway Implementation Project. The project will provide alternatives for improving mobility, accessibility, connectivity and quality of life along Broward Boulevard. The project area is nearly 2.7 miles in length and extends from NE 8th Avenue to the east, NE 4th Street to the north, NW 27th Avenue to the west and shall include all commercial properties south of Broward Boulevard to the New River from NW 27th Avenue to NE 8th Avenue.
The Broward Boulevard Gateway Implementation Project is funded by the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization in partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Broward County Transit, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, Florida Department of Transportation, Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority, Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency, the South Florida Regional Planning Council, and the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council.
