For the fifth time, the City's Department of Procurement Services has received
the prestigious "Achievement of Excellence in Procurement" award from
the National Purchasing Institute (NPI). Presented annually, the award is designed
to recognize organizational excellence in public procurement. The award measures
innovation, professionalism, productivity, and leadership attributes of the procurement
organization. | Previous AwardsOn
May 2, 1997, the Florida Association of Public Purchasing Officers named the Procurement
Department the "Most Outstanding Public Procurement Department in the State of
Florida," for the year 1996/1997. On May 2, 2000 the City of Fort Lauderdale's
Procurement Department was again honored as the "Most Outstanding Public Procurement
Department in the State of Florida" for the year 1999/2000. In
October of 2000, the Procurement Department was selected to receive the Achievement
of Excellence in Procurement Award, cooperatively awarded by the National Association
of Purchasing Management and the National Institute of Purchasing. We are very
proud of all of these awards, as we strive to be the best serving the City and
it's taxpayers. Either the National Association of Purchasing
Management or the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing certifies every
professional procurement specialist in the division. Few purchasing divisions
anywhere in the country achieve this one hundred percent certification. NIGP
Best Practices Award for M/WBE DirectoryThe National Institute
of Governmental Purchasing has recognized the City of Fort Lauderdale Procurement
Department as a distinguished finalist for the Best Practices Award for its on-line

M/WBE Directory was awarded for being a new and innovative "best practice."
The Directory was created to provide immediate access of a minority vendor list
to City employees who obtain informal quotes for goods or services. Generally
used by City employees through the Intranet, the Directory may be viewed here
as well.
