Apartment, Townhouse, and Condo Recycling Programs
The City currently contracts for curbside recycling service for single-family homes, but residential apartments, townhouses, and condos with more than three units generally contract privately for this service due to the fact that sanitation service for these multifamily communities is handled privately, as well. If, however, your multifamily community is receiving
City sanitation service, you are eligible to participate, for no additional charge, in the City Curbside Recycling Program.
By establishing recycling at your complex, you will be in compliance with City of Fort Lauderdale Ordinance C-95-36 . This ordinance requires “on-site” recycling service for residents to be provided by owners and condo boards.
The City of Fort Lauderdale Recycling Office is happy to work with you in this process and can bring experience and resources to the table to assist you. We can provide clean, well-labeled carts in fresh, tropical colors, and an abundance of resident information about waste reduction programs available locally and globally.
If you wish to participate in the City Partnership Recycling Program, this service can cost as little as $25/month for two 95-gallon roll carts. A list of service providers is located below, but be sure to shop around, as service price and quality vary greatly. Typically, your complex will require two carts for every 20 residential units. These carts require simple sorting into two streams of materials -- newspaper in one cart and mixed plastic beverage bottles, aluminum cans, steel cans or drinks cartons and juice boxes, in the second cart.
Options to target corrugated cardboard are also available. Contact the Recycling Office at 954-828-5577 for more information. |
