Greater Fort Lauderdale Sister Cities International
"Passport to the World"
Serving
Fort Lauderdale for more than 20 years, Greater Fort Lauderdale
Sister Cities International, Inc. (GFLSCI)
is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network creating and strengthening
partnerships between Fort Lauderdale and international
communities in an effort to increase global cooperation
at the municipal level. This Passport to the world promotes
cultural understanding and humanitarian programming and
stimulates economic development. GFLSCI leads the movement
for local community development and volunteer action by
motivating and empowering private citizens, municipal officials
and business leaders to conduct long-term programs of mutual
benefit.
- Develop municipal partnerships between U.S. cities,
counties, and states and similar jurisdictions in other
nations.
- Provide opportunities for city officials and citizens
to experience and explore other cultures through long-term
community partnerships.
- Create an atmosphere in which economic
and community development can be implemented and strengthened.
- Stimulate
environments through which communities will creatively
learn, work, and solve problems together through reciprocal
cultural, educational, municipal, professional and
technical exchanges and projects.
- Collaborate with organizations in
the United States and other countries which share
similar goals.

Message from the Mayor
"I am most pleased as the mayor of Fort Lauderdale
to invite you to join the very vibrant Greater Fort
Lauderdale Sister Cities International. This 40-year-old
organization is deeply involved in programs that
reach out and touch all the diversified citizens
in our community. Their programs include humanitarian
programming that has honored our community with international
awards (Wheelchairs for Peace), cultural and I.T.
exchanges, hurricane aid to Haiti, the Diplomats
Gala, hospital and medical international exchanges,
Youth Ambassador Scholarship Exchange Program with
many of our 14 Sister Cities partners, Hispanic unity
programming, international protocol and economic
development.
Our economic development summit has become the template
for Sister Cities International and has connected
our Sister City business community, which in turn
has led to millions of dollars joint venture relationships.
These same business leaders form the base of support
for the other projects and programming listed above.
Your involvement in Greater Fort Lauderdale Sister
Cities International can help touch lives in our
community and across the world. I am honored to serve
as honorary chair of this organization."
