USTA National Boys' 14 Clay Court Championships

USTA LogoThe USTA National Boys' 14 Clay Court Championships is the premier clay court tennis tournament for boys aged 14 and under in the United States. This even will take place at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center from July 19-26, 2009.

The City of Fort Lauderdale is honored to be selected to host this prestigious event, which will draw many of the top players from around the country, their families and coaches.

Some notable players who have participated in this event over the past years are: Andy Roddick, Jim Courier, MaliVai Washington, Vince Spadea, Tommy Ho, Bob Bryan, Mike Bryan, Justin Gimelstob, Paul Goldstein, Taylor Dent, and Donald Young.

The USTA National Boys' 14 Clay Court Championships is a non-funded event. Therefore, the City of Fort Lauderdale must depend on the generous contributions from local businesses, individuals, and organizations.

Events

The USTA National Boys' 14 Clay Court Championships consists of a 192-player singles draw with a feed-in-consolation and a 96-team doubles draw with no consolation.

Singles and doubles events begin on Sunday, July 19, 2009. Participation in the singles consolation feed-in is mandatory through the quarterfinals.

Eligibility

Entrants must be current USTA members. Junior players may continue to play in the Boys’ 14 until the month they turn 15. Players should use the starting date of a tournament to determine eligibility when a tournament continues into the next month.

Registration

Players are required to register at the Holiday Park Social Center between 1:00 pm and 4:45 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2009. A current USTA identification card must be shown at registration. A waiver must either be on file or filled out at registration. Please bring a completed medical release form, which can be printed from www.usta.com (under Junior Tournaments > Entry Forms).

The Social Center is situated to the north and across the road from the Tennis Center.

If your travel schedule forces you to arrive later than the 4:45 pm registration deadline, you must contact the Tournament Director at (954) 828-5378.

Mandatory Meeting

There will be a mandatory meeting for players, parents and coaches at 5:00 on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the Holiday Park Social Center. Following the meeting, there will be a Players' Pizza Party at this venue.

  • Hours of Play
    Singles matches will begin at 8:00 am on Sunday, July 19 and doubles matches after 2:00 pm.

  • Balls
    The Wilson Clay Court is the official ball of this event.

  • Location
    Matches will be played on 18 clay courts at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center and at additional sites as needed.

  • Rules
    All USTA rules governing play and conduct will be strictly enforced.

  • Matches
    All matches will be best of three sets with a 12-point tie-break to be used at 6-all for all sets.

  • Default time
    Players failing to report at the tournament desk when called will be subject to USTA default rules.

  • Dress code
    All players shall dress and present themselves for play in tennis attire.

  • Practice courts
    Practice courts will be available on July 16, 17 and 18 during the normal operating hours of JETC. On Sunday, July 19, practice courts will be available from 6:45 am to 7:45 am.

July 18, 2009 (Saturday)

At the Holiday Park Social Center:

  • Registration: 1:00 pm to 4:45 pm at the Holiday Park Social Center.

  • Mandatory meeting for players, parents, and coaches at 5:00 pm

  • Pizza Party for players, parents, siblings, and coaches immediately following the mandatory meeting

  • A schedule of events for the balance of the tournament week will be provided at the mandatory meeting

  • Doubles entry deadline: 6:00 pm

July 19, 2009 (Sunday)

At the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center:

  • Practice courts available from 6:45 am to 7:45 am

  • Singles matches start at 8:00 am

  • Doubles matches start at 2:00 pm

July 21, 2009 (Tuesday)

  • Consolation matches begin at 8:00 am

  • Barbeque at Jimmy Evert Tennis Center from 4:30 to 7:30 pm
