USTA National Open Clay Court Championships

USTA LogoThe City of Fort Lauderdale is honored to host the USTA National Open Clay Court Championships. This prestigious event, which will take place at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center May 16 through 22, 2008, is the first leg of a four tournament series to be played on all four surfaces:

  • CLAY: Jimmy Evert Tennis Center, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
  • HARD: Balboa Tennis Club, San Diego, CA
  • GRASS: International Tennis Hall of Fame, Newport, RI
  • INDOOR: USTA National Tennis Center, Flushing , NY

Gold, silver, and bronze tennis balls will be awarded to 1st through 3rd place winners in Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles categories. Singles winners will also receive a wild card entry into USTA Professional Circuit Tournaments.

The USTA National Open Clay Court Championships is a non-funded event. Therefore, the City of Fort Lauderdale must depend on the generous contributions from local businesses, individuals and organizations.

Events

The USTA National Open Clay Court Championships consists of a 128-player singles draw with a first match consolation and a 64-team doubles draw with no consolation.

  • Singles entries close at 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, May 9, 2008
  • Doubles entries close at 1:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, May 17, 2008
  • Mixed Doubles entries close at noon EST on Sunday, May 18, 2008

Singles events begin on Friday, May 16, 2008, after 4 p.m.; doubles start Saturday, May 17, after 3 p.m.; mixed doubles start Sunday, May 18, after 2 p.m.

Eligibility

Entrants must be current USTA members or members of their respective foreign associations.

Entry Form

It is required that entry forms and payment for singles be made with the USTA TennisLink Registration System via the Internet, Tournament ID#150705108.

Doubles entries will be accepted online or onsite. Only MasterCard or Visa will be accepted at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center.

Entry Fees

  • SINGLES - $54.25 per player
  • DOUBLES - $33 per player for each category

Note: Doubles partners must submit individual entry forms accompanied with event fees.

Registration

Registration and play will commence Friday, May 16, 2008 after 4 p.m. Starting times will be posted on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 after 4 p.m. Please check the TennisLink website.

Player’s Social

All entrants are invited to a Player’s Social at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center, Player’s Lounge on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 4 p.m.

Tournament Play

  • Balls - The Wilson Clay Court is the official ball of this event.
  • Location - Matches will be played on 18 clay courts at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center
  • Rules - All USTA rules governing play and conduct will be strictly enforced.
  • Matches - All matches will be best of three sets with the 12-point tie break to be used at six all in the third set.
  • Consolation event - There will be a first-round consolation singles event. Third and fourth positions in both singles and doubles will be played.
  • Default time - Players failing to report at the tournament desk when called will be subject to USTA default rules.
  • Dress code - All players shall dress and present themselves for play in tennis attire.
  • Practice courts - Practice courts will be available beginning Friday, May 16, 2008.
