Learn about the role you can play in managing and protecting water resources in your home, yard and community by attending the ninth annual Water Matters Day event.

The City of Fort Lauderdale is partnering with Broward County and other local governments, environmental organizations, and businesses to sponsor this daylong event.

Water Matters Day is set for Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tree Tops Park, which is located at 3900 S.W. 100th Avenue/ Nob Hill Road in Davie. Admission to the park is $1.50 per person.  There is no charge for children 5 and under.

The theme for this year’s event is “Be Florida Friendly,” which focuses on saving water, protecting drinking water resources, and learning how to “green” yards while lowering water bills.

The event will feature a variety of information, activities, and giveaways, including:

  • Workshops and approximately 40 educational exhibits covering Florida-friendly landscaping principles, smart irrigation, pest control through integrated pest management, stormwater management, and water conservation
  • Free native plants and/or trees for attendees who visit at least 12 of the educational exhibits
  • Live musical entertainment and fun activities for children including craft workshops and face painting.
  • Raffles and a variety of giveaways

Fort Lauderdale residents may visit the City’s Environmental Services Division’s booth to learn about stormwater pollution prevention, water conservation, Florida-Friendly Landscaping and more.
