Fort Lauderdale, FL – Motorists who want to avoid running into a road block or getting stuck in a traffic jam can now use LauderStreet to get to their destination safer and sooner. LauderStreet is the City of Fort Lauderdale’s new searchable, mobile-friendly map that provides location-specific information about current and upcoming road and sidewalk closures in the City’s public right-of-way (ROW).

The overall management of traffic on the City’s roadways has remained a top priority for residents, as expressed in the City’s Annual Neighbor Survey. In addition, the growing number of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) permits being issued in the City – 509 in FY2016 and more than 600 projected for FY2017 – along with the convergence of projects such as the Wave Streetcar, four large-scale developments within a quarter mile of the Wave alignment, and planned road and bridge projects reinforces the need for a visual tool like LauderStreet to highlight and coordinate road closures in the City.

The goal of LauderStreet is to improve traffic flow in the City to help prevent delays, make traveling to and from a destination more efficient, provide City personnel with a resource to manage active closures and discourage unapproved closures to avert public safety or traffic issues, and to make our streets safer, which supports the City’s Vision Zero goal of achieving zero traffic-related deaths or serious injuries on our streets.

Developed in-house by City personnel using Esri technology, LauderStreet was specifically designed for use on regular computers, mobile phones, and tablets so users could find information about closures no matter where they are. The majority of closures highlighted in LauderStreet are planned and permitted closures resulting from roadway improvements, construction projects, new developments, and special events. Each closure on the map includes information such as the reason for the closure, the duration of the closure, and detour information.

LauderStreet is not a real-time navigation or information tool, and it may not include every incident or emergency that occurs on City streets, such as after-hours emergency road closures, crashes, or closures by other entities. LauderStreet does incorporate Google Maps’ traffic layer to show how a closure is impacting existing traffic conditions.
