July 2020

Following is an update on operations and activities related to the 48-inch force main replacement project that is currently underway in the Rio Vista neighborhood.

Construction Activities

-Nearly a mile of new 54-inch force main has been installed, connected, and is currently operational in the Rio Vista neighborhood.

-The new pipe installation included 2,200 linear feet on SE 9 Avenue from SE 12 Street north to SE 8 Street; and 2,500 linear feet along SE 9 Avenue from SE 7 Street north to SE 2 Court in Beverly Heights.

-The new force main has been connected to the existing 54-inch line and is operating properly.  This allowed crews to deactivate and remove the 36-inch above ground bypass line that was previously located along SE 9th Avenue.

-To view video of the pipe installation, visit or visit the City's YouTube channel at

-Crews are working on the abandonment of the section of the existing 54-inch force main that is no longer in use (see road closure information below). This activity is scheduled to start July 1 and be completed by July 31, 2020.

-Crews will also continue to conduct general restoration work in the construction area.

-Work is underway on installation of the next segment of pipe, which is taking place just south of Rio Vista in the Harbordale neighborhood.
