FDOT Project to Improve Sunrise Blvd & I-95 (July 21)

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is making improvements at the Sunrise Boulevard and I-95 interchange as part of a $55 million project to enhance infrastructure, safety, and mobility in the area.

About the Project:

FDOT will perform bridge work and resurfacing along I-95 at Sunrise Boulevard. The improvements are part of a broader Restoration, Rehabilitation, and Resurfacing (RRR) initiative extending from I-95 to US 1.

RRR Timeline:

  • Construction began: June 2025
  • Estimated completion: Early 2029
  • Cost: $55 million

Upcoming Construction:

  • Closure dates: Monday, July 21 through Thursday, 24, 2025 (nightly as needed)
  • Closure hours: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Closure: I-95 Southbound at Sunrise Boulevard
  • Detour Route: Southbound I-95 traffic will be detoured via the exit ramp westbound on Sunrise Boulevard, follow the detour southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, and the detour will end eastbound on Broward Boulevard.

Motorists will access I-95 southbound at the Broward Boulevard entrance ramp.

The ingress to the I-95 southbound managed lanes at Sunrise Boulevard will also be closed during this time. Motorists may access the managed lanes at Broward Boulevard. The Florida Highway Patrol will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Detour signs will be posted.
