
The City of Fort Lauderdale is working with Southern Underground Industries to replace existing stormwater pipes that were damaged during the April 2023 flood event. This project is funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and includes:
- Excavating in the roadway and swale to replace existing damaged stormwater pipes
- Restoring swale areas, driveways, sidewalks and pavement that are impacted during construction
Locations
Work will take place in various neighborhoods.

Riverland Village – includes work near Sunset, Chula Vista and Lauderdale Isles
Rock Island
Sailboat Bend – includes work near Downtown Fort Lauderdale
South Middle River and Middle River Terrace – includes work near Lauderdale Manors and Progresso Village
Schedule
Construction will begin on Monday, January 5, 2026, and is expected to be completed in spring 2026. Work will take place Monday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. This schedule is subject to change based on inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Traffic Impacts
- Temporary lane closures are expected along neighborhood streets during work hours.
- Traffic control personnel will direct traffic as needed.
- Access to driveways will be maintained.
- Please follow posted signs and drive with caution.
