Get ready to kick off the summer with live music, vintage cars, unique art, outstanding entertainment, and fun in the sun for everyone!  It's all happening on Fort Lauderdale Beach at the City's Great American Beach Party on Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at A1A and Las Olas Boulevard. Now in its ninth year, the free Great American Beach Party features a full day of exciting activities and entertainment for the entire family.

MUSIC 

Seven bands will perform on two stages throughout the day treating crowds to a variety of rock 'n' roll, country, funk, dance favorites, and more.  Featured artists will include: Swahili Band, Pitbull of Blues,  The Storm, Shane Duncan Band,  Sabor Latino, and Pocket Change

At 4:45 p.m., the Great American Beach Party welcomes jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears for an exclusive engagement. Originally formed in 1967 in New York City, the band is most noted for their fusion of rock, blues, pop music, horn arrangements and jazz improvisation into a hybrid known as "jazz-rock." Their top hits include "And When I Die," "Spinning Wheel," "You've Made Me So Very Happy," "Hi-De-Ho," and "Lucretia Mac Evil."

SANDCASTLE CONTEST

Award-winning LivingSand artist and sculptor John May returns to present the Great American Sand Sculpting Contest from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the beach from Poinsettia Street to Cortez Street. No experience is necessary to participate in this spirited, friendly competition that has become an annual favorite among families, children, neighborhoods, and businesses. Prizes will be awarded for best sand sculptures in a variety of categories.

CLASSIC CAR SHOW

Automobile enthusiasts won't want to miss the Great American Classic Car Show, presented by Keith's Rods and Customs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 70 custom classics will line both sides of A1A from Cortez Street to Castillo Street giving beach-goers an up close look at a unique collection of vintage hot rods, rag tops, roadsters and muscle cars.

FAMILY FUN ZONE

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., celebrity DJ William Pennhouse will bring his one-of-a-kind non-stop energy and excitement to the expanded Family Fun Zone, located on the beach at Poinsettia Street. Activities for children and adults will include music and dancing; face painting; hula-hoop, limbo and Twister contests; water balloon tosses; beach water slides and bounce houses; a cornhole tournament; life-size board games; Florida wildlife exhibits; and much more.

MILITARY TRIBUTE

In observance of Memorial Day Weekend, a military tribute will take place at 1:30 p.m. to honor the men and women who serve our country in the United States Armed Forces. The tribute will be highlighted by a precision free-fall parachute jump by the SOCOM Para-Commandos. In an extraordinary display of timing, accuracy, and precision maneuvering, the Para-Commandos will skydive from 12,500 feet over the Atlantic Ocean and land on targets positioned in the sand at Las Olas Boulevard and A1A. 

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

The Great American Beach Party will also include displays and exhibits from more than 20 well-known and up-and-coming local artists, community booths, collectibles, and plenty of food and beverages.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Portion of State Road A1A and Las Olas Boulevard to Close on May 25, 2019

Traffic Map  05-25-19Residents, visitors and businesses should be aware of the following traffic restrictions that will be in effect for the Great American Beach Party.

-A1A between SE 5th St. and Castillo St. will be closed from 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 26.

-Motorists traveling north on A1A will be turned around at SE 5th St. and detoured back south.

-Las Olas Blvd. between A1A and Seabreeze Blvd. will be closed from 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 26.

-Cortez St., Castillo St., Sebastian St., Alhambra Street, Seville St. and Granada St. will be open to local traffic only.

-Heavy traffic and delays are expected from S.E. 17th Street north to SE 5th Street.

-Motorists should avoid the area and seek alternate travel routes where possible.

Scooter Prohibition

We are committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of residents and visitors during this high impact event and throughout the year. On Saturday, May 25, electric or motorized scooters, and any other forms of dockless mobility, will be prohibited on portions of the barrier island, per City of Fort Lauderdale Ordinance C-19-03, Sec. 8-55.5.

For this event, the portion of the barrier island that is restricted shall be defined as Castillo Street to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, SE 5th Street to the south, and Seabreeze Boulevard to the west. Scooters may utilize the sidewalks on both Seabreeze Boulevard and SE 5th Street but shall not extend past these boundaries into the restricted area.
