Commission Receives Update on Broward Solid Waste Authority Master Plan
The Commission received an update from the Broward Solid Waste Authority on its Master Plan and Facilities Amendment, which outline the development of a regional solid waste and recycling system across Broward County. Commission Reviews Conceptual Site Plan for Fort Lauderdale Beach Park
The Commission reviewed a conceptual site plan for the Fort Lauderdale Beach Park project following prior direction to bring back a revised approach. The plan keeps the basketball courts in place and adds new pickleball courts, an outdoor fitness area, and open green space, along with improved pathways and landscaping. The project is estimated at $2.5 million. The City Commission directed that the conceptual site plan be presented to the Central Beach Alliance and for staff to return to the City Commission no later than the July 2, 2026 Commission meeting with a recommendation, along with an amendment to the existing agreement with the Bahia Mar Community Development District to extend the agreement. Commission Approves Amendment to School Board Recreation Agreement
The Commission approved an amendment to its agreement with the Broward County School Board to support recreational improvements at local school sites. Commission Approves Special Election for Commission District 1
The Commission approved a resolution calling a special municipal election on November 3, 2026, to fill the upcoming vacancy in Commission District 1 following the resignation of Commissioner John C. Herbst. The resolution establishes a qualifying period for candidates from any time after 12:00 noon on Monday, June 8, 2026, but no later than 12:00 noon on Friday, June 12, 2026. Commission Accepts Two Unsolicited Proposals for Melrose Manors and Riverland Stormwater Improvements
The Commission approved two resolutions providing notice of intent to enter into agreements for the Melrose Manors and Riverland stormwater improvements project. The City received and accepted unsolicited proposals from Man-Con, Inc for Melrose Manors and David Mancini & Sons, Inc for Riverland. The proposals offer alternative design-build approaches for drainage and infrastructure upgrades in the neighborhood. The notice also allows the City to seek and consider additional proposals for the same project before moving forward.
