Vice Mayor Robert L. McKinzie - District 3


Commissioner Robert L. McKinzieRobert L. McKinzie was first sworn in as City Commissioner for District 3 on November 10, 2014 to serve out the remainder of the term vacated by former Commissioner Bobby B. DuBose.  On February 10, 2015, he was elected District 3 Commissioner, capturing nearly 60 percent of the vote in a three-way race, and he was sworn in to his first full term the following month. On March 20, 2018, after being reelected, he was sworn in again to another full term as City Commissioner. He is also currently serving as Vice Mayor.

Since taking office, Commissioner McKinzie has successfully worked to advance small business development, enhance business attraction and economic expansion in the City’s northwest community, promote revitalization of the Sistrunk Boulevard corridor, strengthen public safety, reduce crime and blight, support affordable housing, and improve public transportation.

Commissioner McKinzie brings an extensive background in business and finance to the City Commission having served in numerous leadership and management positions throughout his career.  For nearly two decades, he has served as owner and president of Harper and Sons Construction, a general contracting firm that specializes in affordable housing and construction management.

An advocate for community engagement, Commissioner McKinzie maintains numerous professional and civic affiliations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Central Broward Kiwanis; a member of the Broward County Housing Finance Authority (immediate Past Chair); Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, First Baptist Church Piney Grove; a member of the Associate Board of Trustees, Bethune-Cookman University; a member of the Broward County Alumni Association of Bethune-Cookman University; as a member of Leadership Broward Class XI; a past member of the Board of Directors of the Broward County Minority Builders; and a past member of the Broward County School Board Consultants Review Committee.  He also serves as a volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club and is a youth mentor.

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Commissioner McKinzie is a proud graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bethune-Cookman University and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
